Dani Alves To Sign One-year Contract Extension At Barcelona

Barcelona are said to be preparing to trigger a one-year extension in Dani Alves’s agreement to keep him with the club till the conclusion of the 2022-23 season..

The 38-year-old made his return to Camp Nou on a no cost transfer in the latter stages of last season and has made thirteen appearances since being registered at the beginning of the year.

The current contract with Alves expires at the end of June, however Barcelona has the option of extending it till June 2023.

According to Marca, the Catalan side plan to keep hold of the Brazilian for one more season, with his off-the-field behavior viewed as a large positive by head coach Xavi.

The newspaper claims Alves is playing a crucial role in the dressing room, with a number of young players at Camp Nou looking to the seasoned defender for advice.

The defender reportedly gave the squad an important mental boost “at a moment when Xavi was aiming to boost morale after replacing Ronald Koeman at the club.

Alves was left out of the Barcelona squad for the Europa League, but he has been regular in La Liga, showing up on 10 occasions, with a single goal along with two assists.

In the meantime, the South American has played two times in the Copa del Rey and once in the Spanish Super Cup since he returned to the club he originally represented between 2008 and 2016.

Alves made 391 performances for Barcelona in his first season at Camp Nou, capturing six La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey – titles and three Champions League – trophies.

“I wish he is going to stay with us – Dani Alves could be regarded as a role model,” he said. His effect for our staff is incredible, he will help us a lot,” Xavi told reporters when asked about the defender earlier this year..

Alves claimed last month that he had not been contacted by Barcelona to talk about a possible extension, although he had been in touch with them.

“No one from the club told me about my future, there are no talks going on yet,” Alves told Mundo Deportivo. “Not only the young players, but in addition the older players need to show that they should play in this Barca team,” he said.

Alves played 89 minutes of Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Mallorca in the league on May one, and he’s once again likely to be in the squad for this weekend’s competition with Real Betis.

The Catalan giants saw Real Madrid secure the La Liga title last weekend, however they are in a good position to finish second in the table heading into their last four league matches against Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Getafe as well as Real Betis.

Right-backs Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto have both been linked in recent months with moves from Barcelona, but both are likely to remain for the 2022-23 campaign..
