Gary Neville identified four areas in which the Manchester United team needs to be strengthened in the summer transfer window..
The Red Devils have said farewell to a number of first team players this season, with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata & Nemanja Matic all leaving Old Trafford just before Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge.
At this point attentions are turning to the players Ten Hag is looking to sign at Old Trafford this summer as he begins his rebuild.
Manchester United have been linked with several possible inbound signings, with the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Jurrien Timber being touted as potential signings for the Old Trafford outfit.
Former Manchester United and England defender Neville now picks four areas he thinks need strengthening ahead of the next season, saying the Red Devils need a brand new central midfielder, forward, full-back and winger.
Neville said in a chat with Manchester United’s site : “We know the areas that they need to strengthen absolutely,” he said. A central midfield is absolutely necessary. It is an absolute necessity. Manchester United desperately need midfielders.
They need another centre forward, too. I know that Cristiano Ronaldo will probably stay and that he’s a fantastic player, but they need a centre forward. Centre-forward is a necessity.
He added: “there’ll need to be a broad player simply to strengthen the squad and I feel full backs are absolutely crucial in the contemporary game.
There are four full backs there, it will be interesting to find out which two, three or four of those’re liked. ”
Reports in the British press over the weekend indicated that Manchester United might be prepared to enter the competition for Poland star Robert Lewandowski in case his desired transfer to FC Barcelona from Bayern Munich fails.
The sun claim that Manchester United are probably prepared to make a move to take the 33-year-old Lewandowski to Old Trafford in the event FC Barcelona don’t reach a deal with Bayern Munich for his signing.
Ten Hag reportedly persuaded FC Barcelona midfielder De Jong to move to Old Trafford in the summer, despite the fact that the two clubs have to agree on a fee for the former Ajax forward..
