Jamie Carragher: What I Think About Darwin Nunez Moving To Liverpool FC
Jamie Carragher believes Darwin Nunez to be an excellent signing for Liverpool FC and is tipped the Uruguay international to be among the regular starters at the club in the future..
The Reds concluded a deal to sign 22 – year – old attacker from Benfica on Tuesday after days of rumor connecting him with a move to Anfield.
Nunez is widely expected to replace Senegal – born international Mane who is expected to leave Anfield this summer to join Bayern Munich.
The Benfica midfielder is likely to join Anfield this summer with January signing Luis Diaz as Jurgen Klopp seeks to revamp his attacking choices ahead of the new season.
Former Liverpool FC player Carragher said he was “sad to see” the Reds ‘front three of Mohamed Salah, Mane and roberto Firmino separated, but he believes Nunez will be a great addition to the Merseyside outfit.
Carragher told Sky Sports in an interview: “under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool usually get the recruitment correct, certainly when they invest big and the kind of figures we’re talking about, that is what they invested on goalies [Alisson] and [Virgil] van Dijk and made an enormous difference.”
“Liverpool need to refresh the front three because they have been utterly great for the past four or five years with Liverpool,” he said.
“It is regrettable to see it split up in many ways but it’d to reach an end eventually.
Liverpool needed to do something with Sadio Mane looking like he was moving on, and they’ve identified a man.
“At the start of the next season, Liverpool’s first three will be on the left: Salah, Nunez and Diaz,” he said.
Luis Diaz made an immediate effect at Anfield after signing from FC Porto for the Reds during the January transfer window. The Colombian international was a frequent fixture in the Reds squad during the second half of the season, achieving four goals and two assists in thirteen Premier League matches.
Additionally, he scored two times and also made one assist in 7 matches in the Champions League to help Liverpool FC make it to the final..
