Paul Merson Anticipates Where Man United Is Going To End Up Next Season
Paul Merson is tipped Manchester United to miss out on a top four finish once more following season..
The Red Devils are presently getting accustomed to life under brand new manager Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman aims to propel them back up the Premier League table and into contention for a top four finish.
Last season Manchester United had a season to forget as they fell to a sixth place finish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick, making the Red Devils next season in the Europa League.
Ten Hag is on a quest to enhance his squad this summer with some solid signings, though the Red Devils have only landed fullback Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord so far.
The Dutchman also has to deal with the drama surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford after it became apparent that the Portugal international is keen for a move away from the club this summer.
Merson believes that Manchester United might have fought with Liverpool FC for Darwin Nunez signing this summer if they had known Ronaldo would seek a switch away from Old Trafford.
And also the former midfielder believes that Manchester United are unlikely to challenge for a top four finish next season, as things stand.
Merson said in an interview with Sportskeeda: “Manchester United are in disarray and they have to sort this out,” he said. At the moment, it is a bit like a zoo there. They have Erik ten Hag sign up, but they don’t have a centre forward.
If they had known that Cristiano Ronaldo was leaving, they would have gone for Darwin Nunez. For a long time Manchester United have recognized that they have failed to qualify for the Champions League.
“They do not possess a striker, and Marcus Rashford is not a pure goal scorer. They have not finished Frenkie de Jong’s move to Barcelona.
“United are going to Thailand as well as Australia and they have to solve these issues before they go on their tour,” he said. Man United are thinking about another season at the moment.
I thought they had a chance at the top four, but I don’t see that anymore. They got rid of Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, and they have a great deal of work to do.
“Manchester United are one million miles from obtaining the Premier League,” he said. Even if Ronaldo stays, they aren’t winning the league. If he does, he will not be there the next year.
“Where’s the plan?” Just keep on picking out the same players and you will get the same result. I would not actually fancy them becoming in to the high four.”
Manchester United is going to begin the Ten Hag era in the Premier League and have a home match against Southampton on the first weekend of the campaign. They then face Brentford and Liverpool FC in the premier league.
